St. Nicholas, Brockenhurst is said
to be the oldest church in the forest, the site was established in A.D.800. The
Church is beautifully situated at the top of a hill, looking over the village.
Inside In the corner at the west end is the Font, dating from the 12th. Century, a lead lined bowl of Purbeck stone and leaf-patterns on the four sides. On both of the side-walls of the chancel are mural tablets to members of the Morant Family of Brockenhurst Park, Lords of the Manor. In the south doorway, there is Norman chevron mouldings also the Arms of Queen Anne.
The great Yew-Tree was carbon dated in the mid 1980's and a certificate stating that it is over 1,000 years old will be seen on the wall by the Font.
