THE PARISH CHURCH
St. Michael and All Angels
On a mound above the
R.Avon
this present Church was built on the site of a
Saxon Church in C13th. Sopley Church is of irregular shape and is largely built of ironstone
rubble.
Inside. The Church consists of an
unaisled chancel, north and south transepts and an aisled nave of three bays,
with a large porch at the north west. There is a immense tower at the west end
of the nave.
In 1893 the church was
severely damaged by a storm, the lead covering was completely removed from
the nave roof and it crashed into the entrance porch and north transept.
